Happy Halloween!

Iron Man, Skeletons, Cowboys, Princesses, ladybugs, Spider Man, Mighty Betsy and Super Kate, baby cows and elephants, Raggedy Mary Ann!  Our friends have been thrilled since the first day of October, counting the days until Halloween.  This week emerged into a time of planning “camp-outs” organizing fire circles, and taking turns as ghost stories were shared!  We loved all of Miss Jackie’s spooky stories, and had fun making up our own tales!  What a spirited group, with a passion for tricks and treats, Happy Halloween SFLC!

Bone Soup!

“Bone Soup is what I make.  A magic bone is all it takes.  Boil it long and add some spice.  Bone soup tastes so very nice!”  We enjoyed acting out the Bone Soup tale, each friend turned into a ghoul like Finnegan, who brought his eating spoon, stool, and mouth!  A creepy tale turned into a delicious pot of soup for all to share!

We had a week full of LOVE!

We had a week full of LOVE! I even let the kids eat sugary treats on Monday. Glitter, sparkles, valentines, oh MY! We discussed the invention of the water wheel and made our own today, we will be brainstorming to create the perfect working wheel…

-Does anyone know how to sew? We have a lot of fabric and a need to make easy slip on dress-up skirts for some of the princess girls…

– Changes: Cheryl Foley has resigned as SFLC’s artist-in-residence. Judy Graham (who painted the beautiful canvas artwork around the school) will be here next Tuesday to give it a try!

– REMINDER: SFLC will be closed Monday, February 21st, President’s Day.

Thanks for all you do!

The Elks

This week we experimented with plexiglass and paint

This week we experimented with plexiglass and paint. We squeezed, mixed, pressed, swished, smoothed, and transferred our design on a large piece of plexi, so we will have a lasting piece of artwork. This was fun because we got to use our hands and it really came out beautifully. Judy Graham has been coming to read us Rikki-Tikk-Tavi, one of Kipling’s classics. While Judy reads, some of us enjoy drawing pictures, asking questions, and really using our imagination. While questions pop up, I’ve been using the computer to help with some of the answers… especially finding pictures of these exotic Indian jungle animals (mongoose, muskrat, cobras, tailor bird). Judy has been so pleased with what a smart bunch of kiddos we have here and I couldn’t agree more!

Reminder: SFLC will be closed for Spring Break (March 28th- April 1st). Staff and any parent volunteers are more than welcome to help with a fun spring cleaning day on Friday, March 25th.

Hope everyone has a healthy and fun weekend!

Spring Is Upon Us

The Elk Room has been busy, exploring the world of Tunnels; we’ve created our own tunnel system, testing out the laws of gravity, designing, constructing, and fixing our tunnel system.  Maybe you will get to go through a tunnel over spring break!  We had fun filling our Eggs with letters and flowers, practiced the letter “E”.

The Marmot Room has been working on the difference between “bumpy and smooth”.  They used a smooth material, shaving cream, to paint with.  Worked on naming body parts, and really enjoying our new cow boy hats!

We hope everyone has a safe and happy Spring Break, even though it doesn’t seem like spring with all this new snow, hope you’re able to enjoy it!  Looking forward to seeing you all Monday, April 4th!
